About Dirty Hari Movie
Dirty Hari is a 2020 Indian Telegu language erotic romantic thriller movie which is written and directed by M.S. Raju. The film is produced by Guduru Shiva Rama, Guduru Sateesh Babu, and Guduru Sai Puneeth under their projection banner, SPJ Creations. In the film, we can see Shravan Reddy, Ruhani Sharma, and Simrat Kaur in the lead roles. This film is inspired by a movie in 2005 named Match Point.
MS Raju’s Dirty Hari is a strange film, a cautionary film that both drives you in and drives you away at the same time. At the end of it all, on one hand, you cannot help but praise the clever application of Chekhov’s gun, and on the other, you wonder why this movie wasn’t made with better actors. Erotic thriller is a genre that some filmmakers get right. However, MS Raju too almost goes off track but manages to save the film in the nick of time.
Idea of the movie
Hari is a young man who enters into an affair with an aspiring actress named Jasmine just as Vasudha falls in love with him. After his marriage with Vasudha, Hari continues this secretive relationship with Jasmine.
The film starts on an affecting note, with Hari saying that he is not in a position to enjoy his fortune. His riches are attributable to his wife, Vasudha, whom he met purely because of luck. Luck, Hari repeats in the movie, is a great thing. On the other hand, his wife Vasudha believes in an ethical way of life, with her interests going from colorful paintings to classical music. Hari claims that he loves reading books but he is more interested in leering at Jasmine’s bare legs in the presence of his fiancé and Janmine’s beau. More than dirty, he is creepy.
Hari is introduced as an exceptional chess player, but he is neither ruthless nor capable of mind games. He is a pleasure seeker who lusts after Jasmine because, as a character in the initial scene says, even her eyes are full of lust. Conveniently, Vasudha falls for his charm and even her parents are okay with their affair despite him being an unproven talent in managing a business. The writer and Director MS Raju revels in convenient writing and at times, even lazy execution.
The extramarital affair, however, leads to some dialogues like “I am unable to give my best to the relationship”. Jasmine’s character becomes very predictable after a point of time. But, at the same time, she feels so guilty about being adamant in the relationship.
The climax gives a high, with something shocking coming from an unlikely character. Dirty Hari is not all dirty, moreover, it has an emotional lift. When Jasmine asks Hari to take her for a drink regardless of her relationship status with another man, it’s believable. This is because MS Raju shows care in the building of characters. However, when Hari flirts with Jasmine, it is again in a believable zone because her reaction is not a leap of faith.
The movie failed to stage the husband-wife scenes attractively. Ruhani’s character is compact to obsessing over pregnancy. From a friend, whose wife is sex hungry to a movie project that gets stopped due to financial troubles, there are a lot of elements that don’t automatically go into perking up the drama. Although, the impact loosens as more and more sex plays out in the second half. Furthermore, the montages also stop seducing the audience after a certain point in time. Just like Hari feels no emotions when he is with his wife on the bed, the bedroom scenes stop sparking any feelings in the audience.
Simrat Kaur keeps the film with her nuanced performance. On the other hand, Shravan Reddy is a bit out of place. However, the music and the cinematography of the movie are decent.
